Is Your Period Regular?

বাংলা

Periods don’t become regular when you start menstruating. It takes years to have regular periods. Most women reach a stable period routine after 18 years of age.

Girls usually get their periods between the ages of 10-14. Some may start even as young as eight. The medical word for a girl’s first period is ‘menarche’.

It’s not mandatory that period start at the first sign of puberty. Did you know that one of the last signs of puberty is menstruation? For instance, a girl’s breasts begin to develop and vaginal discharge starts a few months before her period or menstruation starts. A white, thick fluid called vaginal discharge keeps the vagina moist and clean while defending against infection. This typically happens six to twelve months prior to their first period.

Many women fear that irregular periods indicate a bigger disease. While that is true in most cases, younger bodies need time to adjust.

Regular Period

Menstrual cycles last for 21-35 days usually. If you’re under 18, it may take 20-45 days sometimes.

The first two years are your body’s adjustment period. All women need some time to have a fixed schedule. So, a few days of difference isn’t a big deal.

You may even have different menstruation periods. Sometimes a period may last 3 days while the next to last 6 days. The flow will be different too.

How to tell IF your period is irregular?

There’s a stark difference between regular and irregular period. It is not normal for periods to skip two or more months especially if you’re young. It indicates that you are not ovulating properly.

Stress and weight are the usual causes of skipped and irregular periods. But, if your menstrual cycle lasts for more than 50 days, it is concerning. Your period shouldn’t last more than seven days. You need to consult a gynecologist and do hormone tests.

Some girls have severe cramps and mood swings. If you experience these symptoms alongside heavy bleeding to the point you’re nauseous, you need a check-up.
