Symptoms of Pregnancy
Did you miss a period? Do you feel nauseous?
Have you suddenly become more sensitive toward smells?
These symptoms might make you think you’re pregnant. The easiest way to find out if you’re pregnant or not, is through a pregnancy test.
Many symptoms of pregnancy let you know when to get tested. If you’re sexually active, you should know these signs. Furthermore, it’s important to remember that a person won’t show all the symptoms.
Common symptoms of pregnancy
- Missing a period: if you’re sexually active and your period is late for more than seven days, you might be pregnant. Even if you had intercourse once, you should get tested in such situations.
- Nausea: one of the common indicators of pregnancy is extreme nausea. Most women have morning sickness usually a month after conceiving. Even though the name includes ‘morning’, this can happen any time of the day. Sometimes this can lead to vomiting.
- Smell and taste aversion: many pregnant women experience a strong aversion toward certain odors and food. Because of hormonal imbalance, dislike towards some tastes and smells occurs. It causes nausea and vomiting.
- Sensitive breasts: during the early stages of pregnancy, your breasts will feel more swollen and sensitive. Your body needs time to get used to sudden hormonal changes. It makes your breasts tender. For most women, the pain goes down in the later stages.
- Mood swings: it’s normal to feel rapid changes in mood when you’re pregnant. You might become extremely emotional and then moody the next moment. This might continue throughout the pregnancy but is less intense.
- Urinating frequently: As your blood supply increases during pregnancy, the kidneys start filtering blood and removing the waste at the same pace. This is why you will pee more frequently when you’re pregnant.
- Feeling tired: In the early stages of pregnancy, there is a sudden increase in progesterone, which causes fatigue. You will feel more tired and sleepy. This can be a sign of pregnancy but also stress and mental health issues. Most people feel fatigued during the first and third trimesters.
- Bloating: Another common sign of pregnancy is sudden bloating due to hormonal changes. This is a symptom of menstruation as well. So, if you’re bloated but not getting your period, you should consider it a pregnancy symptom.
- Spotting: this is not a common symptom, but it can happen. After conception, it takes 10-14 days for the embryo to implant in the uterus. Once this happens, you may experience light spotting. This spotting can take place the week your period is supposed to arrive. It makes many people believe that they are not pregnant when they are. If you get light spotting with the other symptoms, take a test just to be safe.
Other pregnancy symptoms include intense craving for certain foods, cramps, runny nose, and constipation. These are less common symptoms. If you think you might be pregnant, despite using protection and being cautious, you should still get tested just to be safe.
